Leavers' Awards

One of the most powerful times of the school calendar is Leavers' Collect, as Upper Sixth students and their teachers reflect on their time at Leighton Park. A rite of passage in the transition between school and becoming an Old Leightonian.

At the Collect the Leavers' Awards are also presented, acknowledging particular achievement or embodiment of the ideals and values of the school.

The Jorge Hortal Award: presented to the "best all rounder", in memory of Jorge Hortal, who sadly passed away a few years after leaving school. His family and friends return to Leighton Park every year to present the award.

OL and WH Scarborough Awards : from past bequests, two awards are offered to Upper Sixth pupils and are awarded by a panel of Old Leightonians: The Old Leightonians’ Award (established in 1907) and the W. H. Scarborough Award (established in 1937 and named after a long-serving maths Master). Both awards are of equal value (£200 each) and where other things are equal, the W.H. Scarborough Award would be given to a Mathematician or someone with a scientific bent (but this is not a pre-requisite). Click here for more details and application form.

Travel Scholarships: Another great Leighton Park tradition, with past copies in the Library tracing the adventures of former students, back to the 1940s. The scholarships are to encourage adventurous and independent travel and sums of up to £750 may be awarded. For more information, click here.

Mary Triddon Award for Excellence in Music: named after talented OL musician Mary Triddon.

Paul Dowdell Award for Art: in memory of former Head of Art Paul Dowdell.
