Setting
In Maths and French, pupils are set according to their experience and ability, setting from Year 8 in maths and from Year 7 for French. This provides a clear starting point from which each pupil can progress at a pace appropriate to them.
Sciences
After a firm grounding in science in Year 7, sciences are taught as separate subjects in Year 8 - chemistry, biology and physics - to encourage pupils to develop as wide a scientific experience as possible.
Languages
We aim to encourage the learning of languages throughout the school. Pupils choose between continuing with Mandarin in Year 8 or trying two new European languages; German and Spanish. Latin becomes available in Year 9.
Educational trips
These are an important element in many subjects and recent visits have included: Warwick Castle, Portsmouth Dockyard, Reading Museum, Calais, Aachen Christmas Market, and the Year 8 four day Adventure Training and Team Building in Wales.
Transition to Year 9
We anticipate that all pupils will progress to Year 9. There are no further entry examinations for current pupils at this stage.
