FAQs

Here are some of the questions prospective parents most commonly ask us. If any of your questions are not answered here, please don't hesitate to contact the Admissions Office, on 0118 987 9608 or email admissions@leightonpark.com. Alternatively, you could try using the search facility.

When should we apply?

The simple answer to this question is: it is never too early to apply, or too late to enquire about availability of places. We are pleased to receive applications at any time, but please contact Admissions to check before applying.

Years of entry?

Our most common years of entry are Years 7, 9 and the Lower Sixth. However, we do also consider applications for entry into Years 8 and 10, if places are available. Admission into Year 11 or the Upper Sixth is not usually possible.

What do the entrance tests include and when are they?

All pupils applying for entry into Years 7 to 10 must sit our entrance tests which comprise English, Maths and Non-verbal Reasoning, and an interview. Children generally take these in the January preceding their entry in the September, however if you cannot make the entrance test date an alternative date can be arranged for sitting the entrance tests.

Level of applicants?

Generally speaking, above average. However, there is not a strict pass mark in any of the examination papers. In making a decision about the suitability of Leighton Park for each child their entrance tests are reviewed, alongside their interview and the reference/reports from the applicant's current school.

What happens when pupils move from Year 8 to 9, or Year 11 to the Sixth Form?

There are no separate tests, continuation at Leighton Park is assumed. However, all Year 11 pupils progressing to the Sixth Form would be expected to achieve at least six GCSE passes at grade C or above, with A*, A or B in their chosen AS level subjects or advance level subjects for the IB diploma programme, or, for international students, the equivalent grades in their local examinations.
