Music

Music, one of Leighton Park's long-established strengths, is of an unusually high standard - and great fun. The department buzzes with enthusiasm: click here to read this term's Music Newsletter.

All pupils have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument and to sing, to discover and develop new or existing talents.

A typical week in this busy department might feature:

  • The rich sounds of the orchestras, or the senior or junior choirs;

  • A recording session of a new composition;

  • Lively improvisation by one of the many jazz ensembles;

  • Individual tuition during one of approximately 250 instrumental or vocal lessons;

  • A rock band rehearsal;

  • Concerts and recitals;

  • Or friends just making music informally.

Many opportunities exist to perform in school or further afield. Groups have been heard in London's Royal Albert Hall and Festival Hall, Symphony Hall Birmingham, and on tour in Switzerland, Italy, Paris, Prague and the USA.

In addition to this we offer theatre trips, concerts, workshops, visiting artists, house music competitions, digital recording studio and more...

In April 2005, Sunday Worship was broadcast live from Leighton Park on BBC Radio 4.
