At a time when decreasing numbers of young people nationally are studying maths and sciences, Leighton Park's A level students again have bucked this trend. Almost half the candidates took maths, with 77% achieving A and B grades; seven pupils took further maths, with 86 % gaining A or B. Almost a quarter of the year took chemistry, with 64% gaining A or B. In Physics, which has hit national headlines for declining students numbers, almost 80% of LP candidates achieved A or B, with almost 20% of the year taking the subject.
The overall results show the school's academic consistency: with an overall pass rate of 98%, this is the eighth year running that the pass rate has been 97% or over. 80% of students achieved A - C grades, with an average of over 3 passes per pupil. Six pupils achieved a clean sweep of A grades.
John Dunston wrote: Once again we are delighted with a splendid set of A level results, which is down to deeply committed staff and industrious pupils. While we are proud of our results in maths and science, our students performed well across the board, for example six out of the seven art candidates achieved A, while in modern languages, there was a 100% pass at A - C in French, German, Russian, Chinese and Japanese.
