Sixth Form representatives from LP were part of a group of students from across Reading who visited Auschwitz and Birkenau, as part of a visit organised by the Holocaust Educational Trust. Seeing the barracks, crematoria and gas chambers first hand, along with poignant reminders such as a case of baby shoes made a profound impact on the young people.
Hope still feels that she cannot come to terms with what they experienced, with mixed feelings of shock and anger as well as great sadness that the lessons of this terrible time do not appear to have been learned, with genocide still perpetrated, for example in Darfur.
