Music goes on tour in Scandinavia

MusicTourtromboneA selection of Leighton Park pupils recently discovered the delights of Scandinavia for the latest bi-annual school Music Tour. Lasting for 8 days, the tour party had a busy schedule of rehearsals, concerts and sightseeing throughout Sweden and Denmark.

The Orchestra and Senior Choir performed at some outstanding venues, including the Lund Kulturen Open Air Museum, the Gothenburg Maritime Museum, on board a Paddan boat, and at an open air castle supporting a Swedish Pop Idol finalist from 2005 who also appeared on stage.

Accompanied by Leighton Park staff, 50 pupils went on the tour at the beginning of July and performed a wide variety of musical pieces, such as Rimsky Korsakov's Trombone Concerto, The Liberty Bell, A Gershwin Swing Set and Swing Low, Sweet Chariot to name a few. The tour party received some fantastic comments from numerous audiences and even sold a number of school produced "Music on the Park" and "Liquid Silk" CDs whilst on tour.

MusicTour08GroupCastleRosemary Scales, Director of Music concludes ''The quality of the performances from our pupils was outstanding and they should be very proud of their achievements. The value of tours like these cannot be underestimated, not least for the forming of new friendships and the strengthening of musical bonds''.
