International students

Leighton Park has a long tradition of welcoming young people from many different countries and faiths. The community currently comprises twenty different nationalities with approximately one in five of students coming from outside the UK.

Our aim is full integration into the curriculum and life of the school, with English language support where necessary. However, all international students whose first language is not English must sit an English language test in order to demonstrate that their command of English will enable them to cope with the demands of the curriculum.

Continuation of studies at Leighton Park depends on satisfactory progress in the acquisition of English as an Additional Language and our goal is for pupils to be prepared for GCSE English.

A pupil’s English must be of such a standard that the Cambridge Preliminary English Test (PET) is passed at the end of Year 9 or earlier, and the First Certificate English (FCE) is passed before their GCSE course is completed.

Pupils in Years 10 and 11 may be taught in smaller groups to prepare for their English Language GCSE.

Most international students are also prepared for IELTS in the Sixth Form as a preparation for university entrance.

Please also see applications by international students and house living.

A major part of what makes LP the amazing place it is the way everyone is treated as an equal.
