OLs in the Spotlight

Many Old Leightonians have forged successful paths in a wide range of fields, some in the public eye, others working without the glare of the spotlight.

Probably the best known of all was Michael Foot, MP and Leader of the Labour party, who acknowledged that his public speaking skills and life long passon for peace grew from his time at LP.  His brother Hugh Foot, Lord Caradon, led a succesful and influential career as a Diplomat in many of the world's trouble spots.  Politics is still to the fore with Tony Baldry MP and John Quentin Davies, former MP and now Life Peer. Welshman Owen Edwards was creditted and acclaimed for the survival of the Welsh language and culture.

In the arts, there are a wealth of famous names, with Oscar winning film-maker David Lean and actor Jim Broadbent, as was celebrated film-maker Karel Reisz . Other well-known actors and actresses are Nathaniel Parker, Jason Durr, Noah Huntley, Janice Acquah, Simon McCoy and recent leaver, Eliza Bennett. Production Designer Nathan Crowley has been BAFTA and Academy Award nominated for his work on the Batman series.

Singer songwriter Laura Marling  has been won a Brit Award and been nominated twice for a Mercury Award, played at Glastonbury and had two successful albums before she is 21. Laura joins illustrious composer and musician Sir Richard Rodney Bennett and a wealth of talented musical OLs, from Oliver Hunt, Justin Pearson to Stuart Zender.

From social campaigners such as Lord Seebohm, poets and artists such as Julian and Quentin Bell and Roland Penrose, to scientists, educators, banking and business, the school is justifiably proud of its former students.
