PTA Book Group
The PTA Book Group was set up at the request of parents and with guidance from school librarian, Chris Routh. The group meets informally once each half term on a Monday evening in Old School, from 7 till 9, for a lively discussion of the book and to share thoughts and opinions. Throughout the evening we enjoy coffee and cake and there is plenty of opportunity to get to know one another. Teaching staff and parents or guardians are members of the group.
Members choose the 6 books each year, aiming to include a variety of genres and to reflect the diverse, international culture of our school community. You are welcome to join us to discuss just one particular book or as a regular member – even if they have not quite finished the selected book (although we do talk about the endings!). It's never too late to join or opt back in to this friendly and welcoming group.
From time to time we organise other social events, usually related to one of the books we have all shared, such as a trip to the cinema to enjoy a film adaptation of a chosen novel.
One of our regular members said: "There are so many enjoyable things about Book Club: meeting parents from other year groups, a lively discussion about why you loved or hated the book, actually reading some of the books you've got piled under the bed and the cake, especially when it's homemade!"
For 2011/12, our selected books and meeting dates are:
The Help by Katheryn Stockett
