Pastoral Care

Within a comparatively small 24/7 residential community such as ours, people know one another well. Because the day, even for day pupils, generally extends well beyond normal school hours, staff have the opportunity to experience much broader interaction with pupils - in the houses, over meals, around the Park, during activities – which gives them an invaluable awareness and understanding of the unique qualities of each young person in their care. Consequently tutors, and other staff, are able to respond to requests for help or guidance, or to talk through difficult situations in a way that is appropriate and specific to each young person. At other times, they can also provide support in ways that are helpful and not intrusive.

Quakers set store by how each person lives his or her life and try to respond to that of God in everyone. As a result, high standards of honesty and integrity are central to their beliefs and to the pastoral system at Leighton Park. The atmosphere of mutual respect, one of the school's hallmarks, encourages good behaviour, and we have high expectations of pupils.

School Counsellor

Leighton Park offers all students confidential access to the  school Counsellor.

Pupils may go to talk to the counsellor in confidence about anything that is concerning them.  This could be worries about their family, anxieties about examinations or school work, friendship issues, relationships, bullying, mood swings, anything really that they would like to talk about with a sympathetic and experienced professional who will not judge or criticise them or tell them what to do.
