This June saw Year 9 pupils all participating in another successful three day Environment Challenge. The event involves the year group working in teams to study a hot environmental topic and, together, create a newspaper. Each team argues either for or against Wind Power, Nuclear Power, Biofuels or Peak Oil. The event culminates with a heated debate as each team strives to persuade the rest of the year group to vote in their favour.
Leighton Park School continues to champion the teaching of science and to buck the national trend away from science subjects by hosting an event run by “STEMNET” (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Network) on Thursday 1st July 2010. STEMNET is an organisation set up to promote the use of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics as subjects leading to valuable career choices.
This was a night when parents, friends, pupils, ex-pupils and staff came together to enjoy a relaxed evening of fun and also to lend support to the two charities the Joshua Orphan Care Trust and Music for Autism UK
Friday 21st May 2010 was both joyous and sad. At Leavers' Collect and Meeting, Upper Sixth students reflected on their time at Leighton Park as they prepared for university and life after school. Ministry from many students was emotional and deeply moving, reflecting the affection they all felt for the school which to many had been a home, too, for many years.
The following athletes have been selected to represent Reading at the Berkshire Schools Competition on Sat 12th June at Palmer Park.
