"Chatroom" and Other Plays

"Chatroom" and Other Plays

In September, a group of year 10s formed the LP Middle School Drama group, with the aim of putting together a production. The group are now pleased to invite you to their production of "Chatroom and Other Plays", being performed in the drama studio on 11th - 13th March 2010.

The show includes various extracts from modern theatre, including part of "Bouncers", a play performed by four men. They seamlessly play a huge cast of characters including girls on the razzle, lads on a night out, and the bouncers. Lively, comic, outrageous and offbeat, Bouncers brings a slice of nightlife to the stage.

The production also includes a performance of "Chatroom", a play by Enda Walsh. “Let’s let him talk. Mess him up a bit. See how far he’ll go.” Six teenagers meet in a chatroom where anonymity is the only rule. How far will you go if you're not face to face? "Chatroom" is a chilling and powerful tale of manipulation and the ultimate act of teenage rebellion.

The group are pleased to be donating all their profits to Number 5, Reading's young person's counselling centre, who provide free, confidential counselling and emotional support to local young people. Number 5 have over 80 counsellors, all of whom are volunteers, and provide around 450 counselling sessions a month to young people in the Reading area. The issues raised in "Chatroom" are issues that Number 5 come across every day, and they need as much support as possible to continue this important and challenging work.

The production contains some strong language and challenging themes, so is only suitable for Year 9 and above.

"Chatroom and Other Plays" will be performed in the drama studio at 7.30pm, with an extra performance at 2.30pm on 13th March.

Tickets are limited, so please fill out a ticket form and return it to the school office soon to avoid disappointment.

Tickets for the production are £5, (£3 for Leighton Park Students and under 18s).
