Independent Schools Inspectorate - Boarding Welfare Intermediate Inspection March 2012
During March the ISI (The Independent Schools Inspectorate) undertook an Intermediate Boarding Welfare Inspection. This was not a full inspection but purely a regulatory inspection, based on new National Minimum Standards for boarding schools which came into effect last September.
We are one of the first schools to have been inspected under the new regulatory standards and new framework, which sees boarding school regulatory inspections being carried out by ISI rather than Ofsted. The inspectors are unable to comment about the school beyond the National Minimum Standards for Boarding Schools being assessed, unlike the full inspection undertaken in December 2010.
We are fully compliant in most areas, and are reassured that that we are a safe, happy school in which our boarders thrive. We welcome the outputs of the document and the good advice and clear direction within it. We are absolutely content that we have been making progress already in many areas of recommendation, and are now able to address the issues which have been highlighted within the report speedily. Indeed, following initial feedback from the inspectors, we have already begun to do so.

The Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) inspected Leighton Park School in December 2010.
Key Findings:
‘Curricular provision is excellent. A broad curriculum, with new subjects introduced since the previous inspection, provides a range of stimulating opportunities for pupils of all ages according to their interests, while ensuring that the requisite areas of learning are covered.’
‘Extra-curricular provision is also excellent. A busy programme of lessons is complemented by three daily activity slots.’
‘The excellent personal development of the pupils is a strength of the school.’
‘The pastoral procedures and the support and guidance of staff are important factors in the school’s success. The quality of pastoral care is excellent.’
‘Relationships between pupils are excellent, many pupils referring to the atmosphere within the school as being “like one family.”’
‘The quality of links with parents, carers and guardians is excellent.’
The report also highlights some recommendations for the school which are currently being addressed.

CSCI inspection
The Commission for Social Care inspected boarding at Leighton Park in November 2004:
-
In summary, the report states: "This was a very positive inspection. There was good evidence that staff care about the children and young people they are looking after and strive to do a good job."
-
In response to a confidential questionnaire to boarders and their parents, the summary concluded, the overwhelming majority felt that they were happy and well cared for. Parents were very satisfied with the care their children received, particularly the ethos, the pastoral care, the extra-curricular life and the good relationships between staff and pupils.
- Of the 48 national minimum boarding standards inspected, all were met or almost met, with several exceeded.
