School House

Originally sited centrally, School House moved to a new purpose built building in 1992 giving it a modern light and airy aspect.  The opening of the dining facility 'Oakview' has released a large amount of space in School House; the old dining room is now a spacious games room which can also be used for House meetings, film nights and general 'chilling' with members of the House or other Houses.

School House fosters an informal but respectful atmosphere which is the bedrock for life at Leighton Park.

House Achievements

In addition to the generous social facilities, the academic side of life is taken very seriously in School House and we were very proud of the more than 40% of 2008 Upper Sixth students who attained straight A Grades.

On the sports field the girls have consistently been victorious in the Hockey and Netball competitions and have recently provided both National and County players, illustrating the high level of achievement in those areas.

Creatively, School House has had success in writing and enacting the winning House pantomime which showed great humour and dedication in rehearsals.

Music, the House Music Competitions are fiercely contested and we  compete with some very talented musicians.

House Events

  • House Games Tournament:  Held in early Autumn, this event ensures that new pupils mix and meet the others and in some cases quickly gain notice by their prowess at table tennis or chess.

  • Christmas Party:  Autumn term ends with this event where prizes from the term are awarded, with dinner and a disco.

  • Barbecue Evening:  This takes place in the Summer term and enables us to use the attractive surroundings outside to unwind before exams start.

Comments

"School House allows every pupil to be an individual - to be themselves" - A Sixth Former

"We have a lovely Matron" - Year 9 boarder

"How wonderful and rare to have a school, which emulates real-life home environments, through its co-educational boarding houses!"- Parent of a School House boarder.

House Charities

The pupils are encouraged to show social awareness of other people's plight and this year we have had a fund-raising presentation for funds for an AIDS Orphanage Project in South Africa - the result of one of the Sixth Form girls visit there.

There was also an explanation of the situation after the earthquake in China and similar appeals for funds.
