Dress Code

What do you think of the dress code?

Modifying school uniforms to find your individuality is a theme from generation to generation, usually resulting in untidy adaptations and endless staff reprimands. The flexibility at LP allows my children to select suitable but fashionable clothing, which prepares them to be young adults in the workplace and further enhances their own identity and responsibility. To my amazement the pupils always look smart.
A parent (Years 7 & 10)

I love it. It leaves room for individuality while being smart and helps to break down barriers between staff and pupils.
A parent (Sixth Form)

I think the school dress code is a great idea. It makes pupils think about what they wear, what it says about them and how others see them. I like the way it makes young people take on these ideas and work and experiment with them whilst parents still have some influence.
A parent (Years 9 & 11)

I think the dress code at LP plays an important part in the development of our responsibility and individuality. We learn that with responsibility comes trust and few people abuse that.
A pupil (Year 9)

In my experience, schools with uniforms are constantly battling to persuade the children to dress smartly as they feel little sense of ownership of the uniform. By allowing the children some freedom in choosing their own clothes, they seem more willing to take care of their appearance.
A parent (Year 8)

The lack of a strict uniform encourages pupils to make decisions for themselves and hence think more maturely. I approve of it.
A parent (Year 10)

Very good! It teaches us how to dress ourselves as we would in the real working world.
A pupil (Year 11)

I like the idea that the pupils may be able to express themselves on a more individual level, as long as they do not exceed an acceptable code of dress.
A parent (Years 8, 9 & 11)

The code for older pupils prepares them well for dress codes expected in later life.
A parent (Year 9 & Sixth Form)

I think it's good that the pupils have some choice and can express their individuality. It is also good they are told if they go 'over the top'.
A parent (Year 11)

I love it: I can wear a cream suit, any colour shirt and any tie I want!
A Sixth Form student

I love the dress code. For the first 10 years of my academic life I had been wearing hideous variations on a kilt, shirt, tie and jumper. I hated it vehemently.
