Grove House

Grove House 1898Grove House was originally a continuation of Grove House School in Tottenham, a picture of which you can see in the Olde Dining Room in the house today. It opened firstly as a separate school from Leighton Park in 1894. The beautiful building shares the same architect as The Natural History Museum in London: Alfred Waterhouse.

Grove House today is renowned for its friendly atmosphere and interaction between different year groups. This is aided by being the smallest house, allowing pupils to start friendships quickly and easily in a homely atmosphere. Another of our strengths is the diversity of our community which is created by having many students of different nationalities.

House Successes

In 2008, Grove House won the Richard Coleman Shield, the main house trophy incorporating all sports events. We regularly succeed in each different house sport competition.

On the arts and drama side of the house, Grove has won House Music Competition more times than any other house, coming a very narrow second in 2010, has won the House Panto Competition a number of times and continues to excel in arts.

House Events and Charities

Each year we have a charity disco, recently supporting the Reading Homeless Project. The disco also helps new students to get to know each other and other house members. The other House events each year are Christmas dinner (always followed by an informal House Awards ceremony and some games) and House Barbecue in the summer.

Pupil Quotes

Kate Green: "Grove has an amazing atmosphere. Everyone gets along so well and you feel right at home as soon as you walk through the door."

Theo Masters-Waage: "Grove's atmosphere makes the house stand out from the others as I got to integrate much more with pupils from others years then if I'd done to another house, thanks to the homely feel of the place."

House Team

In Grove, the pupils across the years volunteer for responsibilities to help with the smooth running of the house and to help organise the house teams and charity events. While the Heads of House are yet to be announced, the school prefects in Grove in the year 2010/2011 are, alphabetically: Naomi Alderson, Alex Bernard, Aparna DeSousa, Lucy Dodds, Will Holden and Elspeth Wilson.
