Fryer House

Fryer House

Fryer House is our Junior House for pupils in Years 7 and 8.  The House is headed up by Roger Aylward, the Head of Fryer.

What makes Fryer special

"A lively, warm environment with lots of space for recreation/prep/outdoor activities, housed in a self-contained building" The Good Schools Guide 2010.

Fryer has a homely atmosphere based upon a very strong pastoral structure working through tutors.

Fryer has grown in numbers and in 2010 houses 104 day and boarding pupils, boys and girls.

House Events

  • June - Year 8 four day adventure training and team building in Pembrokeshire.

  • June - Annual Fryer Festival to welcome the new pupils and their families for the next term and showcase drama and music in the House.

  • September - Year 7 team building.

  • October - Sports Festival in conjunction with the Annual Open Morning

House Charities

Fryers nominated charities are:

In the Summer Term the Fryer Triathlon (run, swim and cycle) will raise money for these nominated charities.

In the Spring Term the Fryer Quiz night, which also included a Cake and Biscuit sale and Bring and Buy Sale, raised £152.23 for the Chile earthquake appeal.

In the Autumn Term ‘The Big Hush’, which is a sponsored silence, raised money for MacMillan Cancer Appeal.

Pupil Quotes

Louie: In our free time in Fryer we can do many things like skateboarding and cycling. We can also play basketball, football, rugby, darts, air hockey and table football. If you don’t like sports you can go upstairs and play or watch television.

Isobel: In my free time I go up to Fryer and play with my friends. You can either play inside or outside. Inside you go to the hobby room and play either air hockey or table football. You can talk or listen to music or play games on phones. If you play outside you can go into the fields and play football, rugby or crunchball. You can also play netball or basketball.

Will: A typical day at Fryer would start with a lovely breakfast (bacon, sausage, hashbrown, baked beans, toast and a lot more). Then we have lessons for two hours, take a half hour break, have a snack and then another two hours of lessons, then lunch and another 2 lessons and then go to hobbies (after school clubs).

Charlotte: I like boarding in Fryer because it is really fun and it begins to feel more like home not just where you keep your bag and spend lunch. I also like boarding because you get to know the teachers and other boarders outside school hours.
