Success for our Mathematicians at the UKMT

On Friday 19th March, three of our middle school students took part in the prestigious Grey and Pink Kangaroos held by the UK Maths Trust, after attaining outstanding results in the Intermediate Maths Challenge that took place earlier in the term.

Year 9 Mathematicians, Ivy and Ryan, were invited to take part in the Grey Kangaroo, following Gold and Silver certificates in the first round of the competition. Following his Gold certificate, Micah in Year 11 also earnt his way through to the slightly more difficult Pink Kangaroo.

Maths Teacher, Mark Budge, commented “Whist it may not seem much to many, winning through to the Kangaroo is a significant achievement, being only open to the top mathematicians in the country. Micah, Ryan and Ivy need to be rightfully recognised and proud to be part of this elite club. I would also like to especially recognise Ryan who, even though he is still in Year 9, achieved the best result in the whole school for the original Intermediate Maths Challenge. Well done to all.

The UK Maths Trust is founded on the principal of ‘promoting problem solving and team work’. Similarly, innovation is at the heart of the School’s STEAM approach.

Students who take on the co-curricular Junior and Senior Maths Clubs regularly enjoy discussion around questions set by the UKMT and work collaboratively to understand a range of intriguing mathematical problems.
