2021: The Year of Three Sports Days!

It’s been a year of many firsts, including three superb Sports Days! From Monday 28th to Wednesday 30th June, a warm and jubilant atmosphere filled the Sports Hall and Ten-Acre Field with top cheers and encouragement from the crowd.

Stepping up to the plate for their first socially distanced Sports Day, was the Lower Sixth, with select Year 11 and Upper Sixth students returning to participate and support. Due to poor weather the competition was taken inside where the Seniors enjoyed a Sports Day unlike any other. The event incorporated parkour, bench presses, the ropes and more!

Reflecting on the day, Jez Belas, Director of Sport, PE and Wellbeing, and keen Lower Sixth athlete, Nic, discussed how much fun the Seniors had mixing up traditions and considered how they could incorporate elements of the experiment into future competitions. Nic and her CTEC Sport peers continued to show their enthusiasm by giving their time to ensure subsequent Junior and Fryer events ran smoothly.

Nevertheless, the Juniors and Fryers were thankful to be able to enjoy the fresh air as they competed in their Houses on Tuesday and Wednesday. Throughout, there was an impressive display of strength, agility, stamina and spirit.

Combining students’ efforts across the three days, all points were totted up and in Final Collect the results were announced. For a second consecutive year School House reigned glorious, securing the hotly contested Richard Coleman Shield. In Fryer, Rowntree were the deserving 2021 winners of House Sport.
