A Day at Rambert Dance Company Studios

Dance students from Year 8 through to Lower Sixth spent a day delved into the wonders of Rambert Dance Company Studios on Monday 13^th May.

Starting with a lecture demonstration with Daniel, the company’s archivist, the students moved on to learning about the history of the company from its early days, with Marie Rambert, through to the present day under the artistic directorship of Benoit Swan Pouffer. The bespoke talk allowed our Dance students to watch archive material that cannot be sourced outside of Rambert, a real treat for our passionate dancers! The lectures allowed students to appreciate the incredible journey Rambert has been on and understand why the repertoire is so varied.

Students also had a tour of the Rambert building and the wonders that lie within, a particular highlight was the costume department. The company had just performed at the BAFTAS on the Sunday evening before the students visited and being able to witness their most recent performance costumes of ‘Peaky Blinders’ proved an incredible and surreal experience.

To finish the day, the pupils took part in a prestigious workshop with Eryck Brahmania, who danced with the company from 2006 through to 2013. He delivered a fast-paced technique class and repertoire from Marion Motin’s Rouge. It was a delight to see students learn material very quickly and develop it into ensemble work, building on their ability to retain choreography and work together to create pieces swiftly.  By the end of the session students had created a whole piece which will be shared at Let’s Dance later this year, an exciting opportunity to showcase their hard work from across the day as well as their notable development as performers from the experience and history of this trip.
