A Second Bursary for Brummana High School

In March, Sixth Form charity group, Amicus, put their heads together to provide a year’s full bursary for one student at Brummana High School.

As our friends in Lebanon understandably continue to struggle against the financial backdrop of the 2020 explosion in Beirut’s port, Leighton Park was eager to do more to support the Quaker education offered at BHS.

Following a recent Mufti Day where students dressed in bright colours to celebrate summer, £515 was raised to fund another full, one-year bursary.

William Goncalves Moreira, Lower Sixth, AMICUS member commented “Again, we hope that the money we have raised will come as a relief to the community and as a reinforcement of Leighton Park’s long-term commitment to your school and the Quaker values it represents. As always, we have all of you in our minds and hope that the situation has changed for the better.”

Speaking to Will, Marketing Manager, Richard Bampfylde, at BHS, said “I have known for some time now just what an excellent school Leighton Park is. The actions of you and your AMICUS group members who have once again fundraised for the benefit of a BHS student during such extremely challenging times here in Lebanon is a remarkable testament to the school, the holistic education it provides and to you as students yourselves.”

Richard continued, “The core messages of achievement, values, character and community at LP are embodied in this act of kindness and generosity and we thank you and all the students who supported with money on your Mufti Day. I hope you all had a very special day there.”
