Adventures in Wales

On Monday 24th June Year 8 students set off for a week-long adventure in Havorfordwest on the North Pembrokeshire coast with TYF Adventures.

In their new Senior Houses, they immersed themselves in a range of outdoor activities including surfing, coasteering and sea kayaking. Throughout the week students were able to break out of their comfort zones, expend their energy and creativity, as well as hone teamwork and leadership skills.

After an eventful first day’s activities, Year 8 were able to reflect during a coastal walk, where sights of dolphins were reported as the group took in scenic ocean views. This was followed by the Fryers recharging their batteries with a delicious, organically sourced dinner.

The next day a trip to St Davids, the smallest city in the world, was enjoyed with ice cream against the beautiful backdrop of the Cathedral.

Energy levels were still high by Wednesday with the students setting off from campsite in the morning to run the Pembrokeshire coastline, eventually arriving at the famous blue lagoon in Abereiddy. Continuing to throw themselves (literally) into the activities, the students took part in a final round of kayaking, surfing, climbing and coasteering, earning their status as masters of the water. Although they will not likely miss the ordeal of climbing into wetsuits, overcoming the challenges set by instructors and time spent bonding with fellow classmates will be fondly remembered.

Year 8’s week of adventure was drawn to a close with a trip to local theme park ,Oakwood, the biggest of its kind in Wales. With few other visitors at the park, students practically had the rides and stalls to themselves, with little to no queueing. Two thrill seeking students even decided that strapping themselves into a sleeping bag and being sent soaring into the air sounded like fun!

What better way to cool off and wrap up the week by standing on the bridge underneath the log flume and getting soaked?! Back at base camp a final room inspection was followed by a presentation evening and a special, moving Meeting for Worship on the cliffs as the sun set over the sea.
