After a three-year hiatus from the annual skiing trip, LP were ready to once again hit the slopes of Saalbach, Austria as we welcomed the Easter holidays.
On Saturday 2nd April, the ski squad boarded their flight from London Heathrow with excited anticipation for the week ahead. Following touch down in Munich, coach driver, Herman, completed the three-hour journey and dinner stop off to family-run accommodation, Jugendpension Müllauerhof. McDonalds even provided the opportunity for students to put their German language skills into practice.Day one in the mountains and after a customary ski fit, fresh snow and optimum conditions awaited our eager students. Zoe Macpherson, Head of Netball and seasoned school skier, commented “The students all did fantastic on their first day of skiing!”
The following day it was time to head on over to Skicircus Saalbach-Hinterglemm-Leogang, one of Austria’s most popular resorts. To begin a morning of bluebird skiing, Albie in the Lower Sixth led a lively warm up, loosening some stiff limbs from the day prior. With the beginners and intermediate groups working hard on the slopes, the advanced group challenged themselves to several black runs in the afternoon.
By days three, four and five everyone was venturing high up on the mountains to get the best snow, and hearty mountain lunches were enthusiastically met by all. Zoe remarked, “How has this week gone so quick! The final day of skiing saw more great weather to top off a superb trip! Students gave presentations on the slopes and gifts to thank the ski instructors.”
In addition to a successful week of skiing, it is essential to enjoy some well-deserved après ski revelry! Throughout the week, after their sessions in the snow, staff and students did not let tired muscles slow them down. From a recovery splash and swim in the gorgeous Tauern Spa to a traditional Austrian evening (including dancing and yodelling), to an Olympic showdown, karaoke and quizzes, evening entertainment certainly did not go amiss.
