Celebrating the Year of the Rabbit!
Chinese New Year celebrations were in full swing at Leighton Park over the weekend with a trip to Memory of Szechuan, an all you can eat Chinese buffet in Reading, on Friday 20th January! Students from all year groups joined the trip and enjoyed trying out tasty treats and unusual delicacies at the restaurant; opening fortune cookies and celebrating the Year of the Rabbit. Theo (Year 7) emailed Mandarin teacher and trip organiser Lan commenting, “I would like to say a big thank you for the Chinese New Year Dinner yesterday. I really enjoyed the food and the jasmine tea as I have never had any Chinese food before, and it was delicious.” Artur (Year 8) father got in touch to say that his son “had a wonderful time at the meal- thanks so much for organising, and the Chinese communication that ensued!” whilst Daniel’s mother emailed to say that he had “had a great time” too!
The celebrations continued on Sunday 22nd January as our boarders travelled to London’s Chinatown which was decked out with lanterns and banners with a great holiday atmosphere throughout the crowded streets. With the opportunity to explore this area of the capital the group enjoyed sightseeing and another Chinese restaurant before heading home. The whole community shared Chinese food at lunchtime on Monday 23rd January as well with Thomas Franks Ltd, the School’s fantastic caterers, laying on an oriental spread for the hungry hoards at lunchtime.
