Professional Dance practitioner Tara Choudrie spent the day in the Dance Studio on Wednesday 25th September with Dance teacher, Beth Butler and six of our Year 11 GCSE Dance students. The practical workshop enabled students to build up their movement material and to begin the choreography on their duets weaving some of the phrases developed with Tara into their own work.
Beth explained further, “The workshop with Tara supports their duets which are worth 18% of their final GCSE grade so it’s important for them. It’s great to have a day to really make progress on it and have a proper focus. They are taking movements from some of the set phrases ‘Scoop’ and ‘Flux’ and working on these with an emphasis on dynamic vocabulary like ‘slice’, ‘slide’ and ‘ripple’ and seeing how they feel that movement in their own bodies.”
Tara enthused, “They have been very engaged. We’ve done a lot today; we’ve covered six pieces and they’ve worked really hard. They are now using the phrases we created together to put them together in different combinations to make their own duets. It’s been a lot to take on board!”
Jasmine (Year 11) commented, “It’s been a good day, it’s been helpful to me as I have learnt how to use my dynamics effectively and I have made really good progress in my dance.”
