Dancing with D@win

On Thursday 11th March Year 9 Dance hobby students took part in a virtual Dance workshop with professional dancers from D@win Dance Company based at Winchester University. The workshop was fast paced with a variety of tasks. Leighton Park students recognised many of the warm-up exercises but it was also useful for them to be challenged with the more novel use of turn out and classical port de bras. “It was good learning new exercises in the warm-up.” commented Anna, delighted with the new moves.

Set material was delivered quickly and included lots of sharp gestures and isolations with changes in direction. There was also the opportunity to develop the movement through a series of choreographic tasks. “I liked it when I got to develop the movement in groups.” enthused Maribel. “I really enjoyed being able to use my own ideas in the choreography tasks.”  added Theo.

Dance teacher, Beth Butler, commented “It was the first time we have had a Dance workshop delivered in the Dance Studio virtually and whilst it was different to a face-to-face live experience it was certainly enjoyable.”
