Drop Everything and Read

Students across the school had a relaxing start to the day on Thursday 2nd December reading the newspaper! The result of the Library team’s Drop Everything and Read initiative pupils from Year 8 to the Lower Sixth discussed the benefits of online media vs printed news, their story preferences, topical interests and current affairs before settling down to catch up on the latest world events.

Courtesy of ‘I’ newspaper, each student received a free copy of today’s edition so were able to focus on the articles they found most appealing. “I’ve been reading the sport,” said Will (Year 9) “I normally look at the news online on the BBC so I’ve actually already seen this story already, but it’s good to be able to chat about it at the same time as reading.” Year 9 Tutor, Matt Richards, commented, “The group were very engaged with the papers initially and it was pretty quiet for the first fifteen minutes. They usually look at news on the internet so this is a change for them.”
