Festival Vibes: Music for a Summer’s Evening 2025

It was a superb day on the Park on Saturday 28th June as the Leighton Park community gathered in the sunshine for our annual Music for a Summer’s Evening. This al fresco spectacular features music from students in all year groups and is popular with LP families, Old Leightonians, staff, governors and friends of the School, especially when it coincides with good weather! Our talented musicians performed on voice, brass, wind, strings and piano with numbers from Senior Choir, Orchestra, small ensembles, soloists and jazz groups each enjoying their moment in the spotlight.

The Music Department certainly know how to stage a show with the student Tech Crew supporting the production, and even filming every act!

The mid-point of the concert was marked by a moving speech from our Head since 2018, Matthew L S Judd, who was able to take the opportunity to thank the community as a whole for their support during his time at Leighton Park as he moves onto his new role in September.

The Parent and Staff Community (PSC) provided plentiful refreshments from the BBQ and bar with a welcome appearance from an ice cream van as well to keep everyone cool. Luckily the trees on Grove Field offered shade to the audience and their picnics who as ever turned out in festival mode, complete with hampers, camping chairs and rugs.

Music is a real strength of the school with 60% of our students learning at least one instrument from one of our 27 peripatetic music teachers. We are the only school in Europe to hold the distinction of being a Flagship Yamaha Education Partner and our students also benefit from our industry partnerships with Sontronics Microphones and Steinberg for whom we are a Certified Training Centre. We offer a music for all approach recognising the benefits of wellbeing that music provides through our Sound for Soul programme, but also support elite musicians with several students going on to further education studying music at conservatoires, performing arts schools and universities each year.
