Fox House Funds Support Children’s Hospice

Hannah Pickup and Georgia Clark from Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice were pleased to accept £478.32 collected Fox House students and staff on Wednesday 19th March. £259.68 was raised from the scrumptious offerings at Fox House’s Christmas bake sales and a further £218.24 came from the charity sale held in July at last year’s sports day. Hannah delivered a Collect to all Fox House members about the charity explaining “Your fundraising is important for us for multiple reasons; first of all to be able to raise the funds we need to keep the service going and to keep growing the service to reach more children and families. And also because schools like this go on and share our message  around the community so it really raises awareness of the charity.”

Hannah continued: “It’s been absolutely lovely to visit Leighton Park today! Everyone has been so friendly. Your charity team have been absolute stars, they have been so engaged and interested. It’s been lovely to see the faces of the people who have been contributing and helping us. We’ve got our rock the blue campaign coming up in the summer so that’s where you can do anything blue, dress up in blue, paint yourself blue, blue slime – whatever you want to do! Do keep the momentum up with the fundraising and try to make it fun for everyone. Anything to help raise money for us!”

House Clerk for Fox House, Lauren Brandwood, was proud of her House for making a difference to those in need, saying, “It has been lovely working with Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice, raising money for people in the community. This gives students at LP a chance to reach out to people in the local area to support other children who are less fortunate than they are. This definitely resonates with the schools Quaker values by giving each Fox student the opportunity to create a community within the school by helping the wider community in Reading. I am so proud of all the money that has been raised by LP students and I know Alexander Devine are also super grateful as well. Raising nearly £500 is an incredible achievement and I know the money raised in the upcoming weeks for the Easter Egg appeal is going to increase this number even more. It is great that Alexander Devine have given up their time to speak to us today as it means we can hear first-hand where the money raised is going and even who it is helping”

Paxton (Lower Sixth), House Charity Rep for Fox House, “It’s important because the children that Alexander Devine are trying to help are from our local community and obviously Leighton Park follows Quakerism and equality and we have a responsibility to help each other out. It’s a good idea if we an do it through fun activities like Easter egg hunts and bake sales and anything like that to make it fun and to make fundraising exciting. I think that also encourages students to want to carry out more activities like that in the future which makes an even bigger difference to Alexander Devine.”

Dillon (Lower Sixth), fellow Fox House Charity Rep, added, “We chose Alexander Devine because they really stuck out as a charity that goes above and beyond for the children they support. They offer amazing facilities and care and they help people so much. There wasn’t really much debate over who would be our House charity this year; it’s really incredible what they do.”
