Fryer House always end the Summer Term on a high. This year, from Monday 21st to Friday 25th June, the family put together an exciting week of events and entertainment to be enjoyed by Year 7 and 8.
To get the Festival Week off the ground, students were challenged to ‘Escape from Peckover’ as teambuilding company, Popup Escapes, delivered an evening of perplexing puzzles and cryptic clues from the hall.
Tuesday saw everyone juggling the art of ice-cream consumption and fielding in a game of inter-House rounders; a fiercely contested event involving Rowntree, Cadbury, Bournville and Huntley. Points were awarded for wins and participation.
Into the evening, Year 8 got cosy for their camp-in and enjoyed table tennis, foosball and pool competitions, cheered on England as they played Czech Republic, and created colourful butterflies to contribute to the Fryer mural.
Mid-week, Year 8 took to the Thames at Wokingham Waterside Centre. They had a brilliant time kayaking, paddle-boarding and in some cases dive-bombing off the jetty. On the Park, Year 7 took advantage of inflatables and a Bucking Bronco on ten-acre field. With yet more energy to burn, they then danced and crafted their way through their camp in.
Throughout the week, students dropped into House to help with Outreach activities involving the cleaning, packing and preparation of kit to be donated and distributed to various charities.
On Thursday, the group recuperated with a Pizza Party. After selecting their toppings, Tutor, Andy Gallacher, took care of the wood-fired oven (fuelled by logs from the Park) for students to enjoy their tasty treats on the grass and around picnic benches.
To end the week, Fryer indulged in building their own burgers and creating luxury milkshakes for tea, before gathering around the campfire for storytelling, songs and the legendary marshmallow eating competition, dominated by Adrian for eight years.
