Students in Years 7 to 9 had the opportunity to work with Emily Golding-Ellis, a guest teacher on the Urban Dance Hip Hop CATS programme, run by Swindon Dance, on 1st April in the LP Dance Studio. During the workshop, students learned key hip-hop movements such as the ‘Bart Simpson’ and ‘Boogaloo’ and quickly mastered an entire dance routine.
The workshop aimed to introduce students to a new dance style and give them a taste of the training offered by the CATS programme, which is designed for dedicated dancers passionate about their art. We are proud to announce that four Leighton Park students who attended the workshop have successfully earned places on the CATS programme. These students include Akshay (Year 8), Issy (Year 9), and Julia (Year 9), who have secured spots on the Contemporary Programme, and Katie (Year 9), who has earned a place on the Ballet Programme.
Emily praised the Leighton Park students for their strong work ethic, noting their excellent attitude toward both dance technique and the delivery of the repertoire. Following the practical workshop, Philippa Furley from Swindon Dance provided further insights into the CATS programme and discussed how students can get involved outside of school, especially as they move toward pursuing GCSE Dance in the coming years.
GCSE Dance at Leighton Park School focuses on the aesthetic and artistic qualities of contemporary dance and the symbolic use of movement to express and communicate ideas. It develops technical and expressive skills alongside knowledge and understanding of dance performance, choreography and critical appreciation.
Leighton Park also offers Dance at A Level in the Sixth Form. Discover A Level Dance at Leighton Park through Lower Sixth student, Immy, here.
