High Five Finale!

High Five week, the brainchild of our enthusiastic Sports CTECH students has raised a magnificent £470 via GoFundMe against their £250 target! The team are delighted that their fundraising for YoungMinds, a charity dedicated to supporting mental health issues in young people, has exceeded the goal.

The Upper Sixth group were aiming to get the whole community out and about for a daily run during the last week of half term promoting the physical and mental health benefits of exercise. Participants were treated to a variety of running related opportunities including interval training and a long run to finish the week. Jez Belas, Director of Sport, Johnnie and Ellie (both Upper Sixth) literally went the extra mile by completing a half marathon each on the Friday!

A Spotify playlist was on offer to keep motivation up and the runners were able to track their progress through the LP Athletes Strava group. It was one of the coldest weeks of the winter so far so everyone who took part truly deserves recognition for supporting the initiative; luckily running is one way to warm up!

Assistant Head, Outreach and Partnerships, Tash Coccia, praised the CTECH group, “You have been incredible – thank you for living out LP values and showing the younger students how it is done. You are truly brilliant role models.” Echoed by Jez, who commented “Well done on putting together such a great LP High 5 Week! I know loads of students and staff got involved in some capacity. There are individual stories of students who ran their longest ever runs. Amazing, amazing, amazing!!! This just shows you how the CTECH course has enabled you to do great things. I’m really proud of you. You are all awesome”

Jakki Marr, Head of Girls’ Games, was equally enthusiastic commenting, “I have to say the time, effort and energy you put into the LP High 5 week is a testament to what you can achieve together! What a great week! As I always say ‘Teamwork makes the dream work’!”  Nicky Hardy, Deputy Head (Pastoral) reflected, “Awesome work all and we are very proud of you.”
