Hosting the ISA A Cappella Competition 2023

On Friday 10th March, we opened the Michael Malnick Music and Media Centre to thirteen ensembles from across the country for the 2023 ISA A Cappella Competition. Amongst nine talented schools, Leighton Park performed in the KS3 and KS4-5 categories.

A KS3 ensemble, with students from Years 7, 8 and 9 worked hard to prepare a fantastic ABBA medley with instant appeal, consisting of classics such as Dancing Queen and Super Trouper; Pitchcraft, a group of Year 11s, prepared their own exciting arrangement of Ghostbusters and finally; a highly polished and thoroughly engaging performance of Friend Like Me by the Chamber Choir saw them win the senior category.

As praised by the Independent School Association, each group showed great passion for the craft of singing unaccompanied and really enjoyed themselves on stage.

To round up an exciting day of polyphonic performances, competition judge, Christopher Hann, led a singing workshop. Christopher is an experienced conductor, singer, and vocal tutor, and is an Associate of The Royal Academy of Music.

Director of Music, Rosemary Scales, reflected “It was a real pleasure to again host this exciting A Cappella event at Leighton Park, welcoming so many excellent vocal groups from a wide range of schools. It was wonderful to see the support from each school for all of the different performers throughout the competition. Our three groups had worked really hard in preparation for the event and represented the school at the highest level – they should be really proud of their achievement.”
