ISA Winning Artist Izzy!

Talented Upper Sixth Form artist, Izzy, was celebrated for her creativity by the Independent Schools Association in March as the judges announced the winners of the annual Art Competition. Izzy achieved second place for her ‘Studio Chair in Homage to Vincent’, a beautiful piece of painted furniture on the theme of Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’.

The ISA’s competition is open to member schools throughout the UK and offers the opportunity to showcase student artwork in a wide variety of genres including sculpture, photography and fine art. Teachers are able to share ideas and best practice and pupils of all ages can find inspiration and encouragement in the work of others.

Head of Art and Izzy’s teacher, Mark Wood, commented, “What has really impressed us about Izzy’s work is how over the course of a turbulent 2 years, Izzy has built on her skills and honed them to achieve powerful and meaningful outcomes. Her ‘Homage to Vincent’ was very much a turning point where the notion of working in a studio became a catalyst for creative expression. Through looking at the working environment of artists throughout history, Izzy has herself joined that timeline. We are delighted to see this recognised by her ISA award at a national level. The humble chair is something everyone can relate to, equally Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’ is very recognisable, but through the combining of object and painted artwork Izzy has breathed new life into it, making the familiar become fresh and new. A truly satisfying piece of work that will become a celebrated feature in her end of year exhibition as she invites us into an installation emulating her studio.

Izzy plans to attend art school after Leighton Park next year to continue her art studies at foundation level. She is certainly looking forward to the chance to explore new ways of working in alternative creative studios, be it London or Bournemouth. Maybe her next work will be in homage to her time at LP!”
