Our students enjoy success in the Independent Schools Association competitions, with some of our Advanced Performer Programme members going on to the highest levels in their sports. We foster and celebrate these achievements, while ensuring that every student can enjoy being active, competing and developing their skills. Keen athletes can keep themselves active and play sports every day of the week, from our early swim and cardio classes at 6.30am through to games training under the floodlights in the evening.

Our All Weather Pitch was been resurfaced in February 2024 with a brand new carpet and state of the art LED lighting. The School aims to open a new Sports and Wellness Centre in 2026. These facilities complement our 25 meter indoor heated swimming pool, three full size football pitches, a beautiful cricket oval, 22 tennis courts, eight netball courts, a strength and conditioning suite and a cardiovascular fitness suite.

We play more than 30 sports at Leighton Park, with Football, Hockey and Netball being our focus sports.

PE

In Physical Education, we place a lot of emphasis on students learning to move properly. This includes physical literacy and movement competency and overall fitness and health from both a physical and mental standpoint. Every student from Year 7 to Year 10 gets a data tracker to assess their progress in sport as well as giving them insights into the links with their mental health and happiness. The link between moving your body and how you feel is really important. Click the image to find out more about our GCSE programme.

Charlotte rugby

Charlotte – England Rugby Developing Player Programme

"I love that rugby is a very physical game, where you develop special friendships with your team mates. My ultimate goal is to play for the England Women’s 7s and 15s teams. I really appreciate the support provided by the Leighton Park Advanced Performer Programme, in helping me to prepare physically and mentally for rugby, in addition to the encouragement I have received from the sports coaches!"
Oliver Hockey

Oliver - England U16 Hockey

"I started playing hockey at a young age as my parents both play and have gradually worked my way through the county, regional and now England set up. My ultimate goal is to play in the Olympics and represent my country. At school the APP programme has helped me work on areas of my game off the pitch like strength and speed and also as a sports scholar I am able to visit Go Perfrom, where I receive specific feedback and training plans in a professional environment. Matt, our hockey coach at Leighton Park, plays in the first team at my club giving me a view of what I could do and achieve if I work hard."
Yezen

Yezen - Reading Football Club Elite

“I like football because it is fun to play with friends, there is a lot of teamwork and it keeps you fit. I’m a Sports Scholar at Leighton Park, which means I am part of the Advanced Performer Programme. I love going on trips, like our recent visit to St George’s Park, the home of the English national football team, where we learned about hydrotherapy.”
