LP’s Budding Filmmakers

This year, the ISA Film & Digital Art Competition saw a vast amount of creative and technical talent across its three categories; Computer Animation, Short Film and Digital Art.

Included in this impressive pool of entrants was Theo in Year 10 with his short film ‘Dear Sister’ and Nick, Sam, Josh and Jimmy, who entered the same category collectively as ‘Spider Spies’, with their creation ‘Under A Ladder’.

Securing 2nd place in KS4, Theo’s work was highly commended and left the judges wanting more, “I really enjoyed this and was very impressed by the innovative combining of different animation styles – I wished it had gone on longer, though! Could this very promising film could be extended, perhaps with more story?”

Theo is a part of the Senior Animation co-curricular group and enjoys dedicating his time to drawing and animation sketching. Daniel Fisher Wienesen, Music and Media Teacher commented, “[Senior Animation Club] lets Theo express his characters. I’m absolutely delighted with our students who achieved 2nd and 3rd place in the KS4 Short Film category! I feel that as a school, the access to creating these films has come from the room to explore with the equipment. ‘Under the Ladder’ grew from an idea for which Sam and Jimmy were inspired to write the music to. Last year, they also chose to study Digital Media as part of the Year 10 CAS programme. This helped them build their skills through experimentation.”

Closely following their peer, in 3rd place came the Spider Spies who shot their comedic short during co-curricular Film Club, utilising the grounds and buildings on the Park, as well as the media department’s cameras and technical equipment.

The judges were again impressed, commenting “This film had a compelling central performance, told an engaging story and made good use of locations. The use of green screen for the bus sequence was very witty and the supporting actors did a great job. Very enjoyable overall.”
