New Deputy Head (Academic) for September 2021

It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Alex Wallace as Leighton Park’s new Deputy Head (Academic). Alex joins us from the Royal Grammar School (RGS) in High Wycombe, where he is Deputy Headmaster.

Alex really impressed the recruitment panel with his strong leadership track record and wealth of experience. Matthew, Head of Leighton Park, commented: “We had an exceptional field of candidates for this role and I am really looking forward to Alex joining the leadership team. He will be overseeing our academic departments and ensuring that Leighton Park remains one of the top performing schools in England. Alex brings exciting capabilities with him and I am confident that he will further strengthen our vibrant learning community and help our students achieve outstanding personal development and academic success.”

Alex is an established school leader, having worked as Deputy Headmaster at RGS High Wycombe for nearly five years and Assistant Head (Academic) for a further three years. Alex also led the Grammar Senior Leadership Course, delivered a school-wide Ethos of Learning and oversaw exciting developments to the school’s Continuous Professional Development, including a focus on innovative teaching to raise attainment.

Alex is a keen sportsman, having played semi-professional rugby for 10 years and even captaining Reading RFC. Alex has also played County-level cricket.

Alex commented: “I am absolutely thrilled to be joining Matthew and his team at Leighton Park. My family and I have already been made to feel very welcome. I have had the good fortune to visit many impressive schools throughout my career, but Leighton Park strikes me as a quite remarkable place, that is delivering on its values and ethos. I look forward to discovering more.

I have taught in a variety of schools and all these different settings have provided great opportunities and challenges and I have learnt a vast amount from not only colleagues and parents but most significantly from the students. I look forward to this next stage of development at Leighton Park.

This is a really exciting family move for my wife and three young children. We look forward to immersing ourselves in Leighton Park life. When away from education my main passion is sport. As the body gets older, I am more likely to be found on the golf course or tennis courts rather than my beloved rugby pitches! I am a proud Devonian and much of our holiday time is spent on the coastline of North Devon walking or surfing.”

Alex will start at Leighton Park at the beginning of the Autumn Term 2021.
