Oscars and Old Leightonians

Rooting for Old Leightonian Nathan Crowley, who is nominated for the fifth time for Production Design of the extraordinary movie “First Man”. Nathan has a string of top film credits, from The Dark Knight series (Batman), “The Greatest Showman” to “Interstellar”and “Dunkirk”.  We do hope that Nathan will be able to come and see us, and inspire a new generation of film-makers.

This clip shows Nathan talking about some of the challenges recreating the missions.

Old Leightonians are no strangers to the major film awards though: legendary film director OL Sir David Lean won the golden statuette for Best Director for “Lawrence of Arabia” and “The Bridge over the River Kwai”.  The other side of the camera, actor Jim Broadbent scooped the award for Best-Supporting Actor in “Iris” in 2002.  Composer and musician Sir Richard Rodney Bennett was nominated for his score for “Murder on the Orient Express”, “Nicholas and Alexandra” and “Far from the Madding Crowd”.

The cutting edge VFX and Augmented Reality technologies created by Nic Hatch’s company NCam keep him at the fore-front of the industry.  This season, the movie “Solo” used these technologies.
