Quaker Week: Philosophy, Religious Studies & Values

Year 7s were excited to visit the Quaker Meeting House during Quaker Week on Wednesday 28th September.

The new Fryers have recently begun learning about Quakerism in their Beliefs and Values lessons and have been particularly focussing on the essential values which underpin our school. As part of this introduction, the visit to our local Friends Meeting House and associated burial grounds showed the students how a meeting house operates and taught them first-hand what Quakerism is.

Stephen Taynton, Head of Beliefs and Values, commented, “It was a great opportunity for the children to join their own values with ‘real’ Quakers. It was the joining of the School and the Meeting House and it was great to watch the children involved in that.”

Year 7 student, Max, reflected, “What I found interesting about the trip is how when we did the role play that Quaker got put into prison for praying at night, leaving the kids alone. The kids; I thought were very brave and co-operated well with the standards sharing food and stuff.”

Students from across the School also took part in a series of videos shared on Instagram this week explaining what our Quaker values of Simplicity, Truth, Respect, Integrity, Peace, Equality and Sustainability meant to them.
