Silver at National Athletics Champs for Mia!

Our speedy Sixth Form student, Mia, clocked up a new personal best on Sunday 10th July and won a Silver Medal at the English Schools’ Athletics Association Finals in Manchester.

Mia was proud to represent Berkshire in the under 19s class, running 3000 metres against 20 other runners from across the country.  The race was particularly challenging in this week’s unusually high temperatures and taking place at 2.30pm meant that the heat was relentless.

The race started very steadily and no one really wanted to take the lead but with four laps to go Mia and two other runners started to stretch out the pack. On the final lap Mia kicked hard and started to pull away further but the runner from North Yorkshire pipped her for first place which meant Mia placed second with a personal best time of 9 minutes 44 seconds. The record for this event is held by Paula Radcliffe with a time of 9.04.

Head of Girls’ Games, Jakki Marr, commented “A fantastic achievement and very well deserved after all Mia’s training, commitment and dedication.”
