Leighton Park Dance Scholar, Hoi Kiu (Year 10), gained a prestigious place at the National Association Teachers of Dance (NATD) Theatrical Scholarships Grand Finals 2023 and competed on 1st October. Hoi Kiu the day as “thrilling” and is extremely happy that she has been able enough to compete “overseas” as originally being from Hong Kong, it was on her bucket list.
Hoi Kiu danced a classical ballet variation known as ‘Kitri Variation’ from Act 3 of the ballet ‘Don Quixote’. The Year 10 student commented: “I had met some dancers which I have seen from my heat and other competitors whom I have never seen. Although I was quite nervous as I believe that a lot of the dancers were quite talented, I still strived for my best and put 100% effort into my dance. I believe that I still have the potential to work harder and I hope for the best next year as I believe that I can do even better”.
Being a Leighton Park Dance student, Hoi Kiu expressed how the School has supported her through her dance journey including her achievements beyond the classroom. She enthused “The school has helped me a lot through this experience. I was introduced to this opportunity by Beth and Anja who are my Dance teachers. I was quite reluctant to join this competition as this meant that I would need to sacrifice time and would be much harder for me to balance my schoolwork and this competition. However, with their encouragement and support, I was able to let myself out of my comfort zone and try competing internationally”.
