Training at St George’s Park

Leighton Park’s Advance Performance Programme athletes recently had the unrivalled opportunity to experience life as a pro athlete, when they visited St George’s Park, home to England’s 27 national football teams. An intense training programme awaited students as they arrived at the £105m facility, set across 330 acres of Staffordshire countryside.

With access to 13 outdoor pitches, rehabilitation and sports science suites and an indoor futsal arena, on Wednesday 29th January, the team completed a day of demanding fitness tests and physical performance profiling, alongside professional athletes and practitioners.

Andy Gallacher, Head of Rugby and Athletic Development commented, “This trip provides our athletes with an invaluable experience and insight into what it takes to become a professional athlete. It offers a unique setting for those hoping to take their sporting ability to the next level.”

The APP is aimed at students playing regular representative sport outside of school, giving them opportunities to further develop their knowledge and ability. The programme provides bespoke strength and conditioning, as well as a Sports Science support package with a termly functional movement screening and consultation with our local partners, GoPerform.
