Work Experience with Springpod

This Easter, instead of putting all her eggs in one basket, Lilia in Year 10 has undertaken virtual work experience in both the disciplines of teaching and finance. The two-week, 12-hour programmes from Springpod have been comprised of a mixture of live events, videos, quizzes and reflective exercises.

After being introduced to the career’s platform by Sally Saunders, Head of Careers, Lilia first enrolled on their virtual teaching course. “I decided to do this one because I am considering becoming a teacher when I am older and this programme gives a little insight into what it is like planning the sessions, what I have to do to become a teacher and what the core values are… I have found it really interesting so far.” Reflected Lilia.

Lilia also highlighted the importance of being open minded and the role that work experience plays in helping individuals understand what they don’t enjoy. “I got an email from Springpod saying they had offered me a place on their finance course too. I had not signed up for this, but I decided to do it anyway as I thought it would be a good experience for me.”

She continued “This programme is also interesting but in a slightly different way. So far it has made me realise that I don’t want to go into finance or be an accountant but it has enabled me to understand what the role involves, which I didn’t know before. I am still going to complete the finance course.

The format is brilliant. It explains how to use the programme and gives you a demo course, so you know how everything is going to work and how to use it. I think the thing I enjoyed the most about the programme is learning more about a career that I might want to go into when I am older so then I know what to expect and also then figure out what I don’t want to do.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants more work experience. It will look excellent on your CV but also it will give you that experience that could potentially lead you to another career or even enable you to get a job. Try to gain as much information as possible as it is really important that we understand as young people what kind of jobs are out there and what we might want to do in the future.”
