Year 10s Team Building and Thrill Seeking!

The Year 10s have spent the last two days combining team building and problem solving before trying out their engineering ideas for real on the water. They had to design a raft and then build their craft at the Wokingham Waterside Centre to test whether it would actually float. They also explored the science behind roller coasters with the aim of understanding a bit more about this exciting mode of transport before visiting Chessington World of Adventures the following day.

“The idea behind it was to allow them to explore team building in different contexts.” Explained event organiser and STEAM Co-ordinator, Mark Budge. “It was the STEAM themed team building day first so they did have a look at roller coasters in advance of their visit to Chessington tomorrow and they did design rafts before they headed off to the Waterside Centre. The problem solving was one part of the team building really.”

Biology teacher and Assistant Head of Year 10 and 11, Sam Bates, commented “We took 85 students and had a really, really fun day enjoying all the rides and seeing the animals. Students loved Vampire which is like a hanging roller coaster and Croc Drop which is a vertical tower from which you are dropped at speed. I was going round avoiding rides but the students had a great time! A lot of them won soft toys from the stands which they were happy about! Definitely one to go back to!”
