Debating at Leighton Park

Leighton Park offers outstanding debating opportunities. The historic JBH Speech Competition, dating to 1914, tests students’ persuasive power through short speeches, heckling, and live rebuttals. The school also hosts regional Model UN events, where students debate global crises, develop resolutions, and build diplomatic skills. Weekly debating clubs explore topics from ethics to international policy, with entries into national contests like the ESU and ISA. Debating is further supported through academic pathways: A Level Politics includes active classroom discussion, conferences, and visits, while the IB Global Politics course offers a rich foundation in international relations and contemporary political debate.
