A Challenging but Rewarding Curriculum

Ideal for international students, our one-year GCSE programme gives you the opportunity to study between five and seven GCSEs in preparation for Sixth Form.

You’ll take English, Maths and Combined Science plus an optional Humanities course (Geography or English as an Additional Language (EAL)) with the option of also studying a language.

Sometimes known as Pre-A Level or Pre-IB, this intensive course will give you the qualifications you need to enter Sixth Form and study either the IB Diploma or A Levels.

Pastoral Care

We’re proud to be leaders in student wellbeing and pastoral care, offering you the support and guidance you need to thrive with us.

Our classes and tutor groups are small and you’ll get to know your tutor well thanks to dedicated time with them every day. They’ll offer you close support and tutorial guidance, so you know someone’s always looking out for you.

We also have dedicated pastoral and safeguarding teams at the School, plus an on-site Health Centre and mental health support.

Your School Day

The official school day starts at 8.15am with Registration. But you can join us for breakfast from 7.30am to fuel yourself for the day to come.

You’ll have two lessons in the morning before break. Then another two before and after lunch. Ahead of break each day, we dedicate 30 minutes to tutor time, House meetings, Collect (our assembly), or an opportunity for the whole school to get together for silent reflection.

Lessons end at 4.15pm; closely followed by co-curricular activities and tea at 5.30pm. There will be time for prep and social time with friends.

You’ll spend 60% of your lessons with our Year 11s, but the remaining lessons will be spent in your Pre-Sixth groups. These specialist classes will help you improve your academic English and make sure you’re able to cover the full GCSE curriculum in a year.

The Full Boarding Experience

As one of 15 students joining us for Pre-Sixth each year, you’ll get the full Senior School experience as a boarder.
You’ll share accommodation, tutor groups, meals, co-curricular activities and trips with students from across the School. Helping you settle in quickly, practice your language skills and, of course, make life-long friends.

Five teachers live in each boarding house to help you thrive both personally and academically while you’re with us at Leighton Park.

And if you want to explore the rest of the UK in your time off, Leighton Park is just 25 minutes from London by train, and 30 minutes from Heathrow by car.
