After the announcement of Leighton Park partnering with Brentford FC CST, Leighton Park has celebrated with three full on days of competitive football!

We were delighted to host our Berkshire Girls’ Football Tournament for the third year running, our boys for the second year running, and a new addition to the week – a Year 4 Mixed Football Tournament for local primary and prep schools!

The Boys’ Tournament brought eight neighbouring schools to our ten-are field to compete in both U13 and U15 age groups. Both age groups fielded four teams, with our U15 Red Team secured second place in the Cup Final, an astonishing performance of grit and determination. Whether win or lose, the ice cream van was a crowd pleaser across both tournament days! We also welcomed our new Brentford partners to make their debut on the Park too, setting up a penalty shoot-out task for in-between match breaks.

The Girls’ Tournament also featured competitive matches across the two age groups, U13 and U15. Leighton Park’s U15 Blue Team were crowned Plate Champions and a great Bowl win for our U15 Yellow Team. We were delighted to be joined by Brentford Women’s player, Shania Foley, who acted as an inspiration to the 250 girls attending the tournament. Shania hosted the penalty shoot-out task during the tournament and gave a few tips of her own to players! Shania commented on why she was so pleased to attend and why the Brentford X Leighton Park Partnership is so special: “Once they realise that I play for Brentford, they're more encouraged to play. I think it's also inspiring for them to see that a female can go on and play at a good level. They can look up to me and ask me loads of questions. I think it's an amazing partnership. It's really positive because we both have the same values. We want girls to go on and play sport and play at the best level that they can be.”

We thoroughly enjoyed hosting our new Year 4 Mixed Football Tournament with Caversham Prep, The Heights Primary, Loddon Primary, Evendons Primary, St Mary’s Prep School and Waverley Prep on our ten-acre field as the bank holiday sunshine began. The five aside tournament allowed our 70 visiting Year 4’s to experience competitive play on a larger scale in a fun, community environment. Congratulations to St Mary’s Prep who beat Loddon Primary in an exciting final, to be crowned overall Cup winners. Our Plate final was equally biter, however Evendons emerged victorious against The Heights. Thank you to all the schools who came along to the fun and the parents who supported!

Football is a core sport at Leighton Park as well as Hockey and Netball and we are proud to continue developing our Sport programme to give our students the best sporting opportunities. Our new partnership with Brentford FC CST is an exciting addition to Football at LP, with big plans emerging in the next few years for sport altogether.
