Academic Scholars Explore Oxford

As part of their scholarship opportunities, our academic scholars enjoy an annual trip building their intellectual experiences and providing new insights into the world around them.

Deputy Head (Academic), Alex Wallace, shared his thoughts on the characteristics of those on the trip: “What we are looking for with an academic scholar is not only someone who is very talented and gifted in their chosen field, but also someone who is prepared to go above and beyond. We also look for people who are prepared to be a role model for younger students and who are prepared to give back to the subject that they’ve already got so much from.”

Speaking from this year’s location, Oxford, our Assistant Head: Director of IB, Kees Luteijn, explained: “We’ve got all the academic scholars with us from Years 7 to 11 today and are doing a walking tour of Oxford to give them a taste of what Oxford is all about. We are also going for a tour of Christ Church next so they can see inside a real Oxford College and get the ‘Harry Potter ‘experience!”

Following lunch in the covered market the students divided into two groups and headed for the cultural experiences offered by the Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums. “The academic focus this year for the scholars is all about research and questioning what makes good knowledge so the trip is inspired by that.” continued Kees, “All the scholars are also undertaking their own action research projects at the moment.”
