Our Year 9 students had the pleasure of visiting Grazeley Primary School on Wednesday 20th May to deliver a dance workshop to a group of aspiring dancers in Years 4-6.

Students had prepared movement material that was ‘Carnival’ inspired as they worked on the development of the curtain raiser for our annual dance showcase, ‘ Let’s Dance 2026’ on Thursday 18th June.

Dance subject lead, Beth Butler, explained, “Lerading this workshop helped develop the confidence, communication and leadership skills of our students. They were so professional and had spent a great deal of time preparing movement that was appropriate for years 4, 5 and 6. Teaching choreography and movement to younger children requires students to refine their own technique, creativity and subject knowledge. Explaining and demonstrating dance concepts reinforces learning and encourages higher levels of engagement with the curriculum. This partnership deepened all students’ understanding of dance. For the Grazeley students we were able to provide an inspiring introduction to the subject that we all enjoy so much.”

Dance student Lily enthused, “I really enjoyed working with the younger students. They had so much energy and were keen to try out lifts”. Fellow dancer, Vivia, added, “I can’t believe we managed to create a two and a half minute dance in such a short space of time. I can’t wait to see the finished piece on stage!”

Beth concluded, “It was wonderful to see the collaboration between older and younger students. I am really looking forward to returning to Grazeley to finish the piece next month and welcoming them to the Park to open our Let’s Dance performance evening on 18th June.”
